Patchwork and Quilting Groups in Greater Manchester
The Quilters’ Guild quilting groups are located at the following:
- Chadderton (OL9)
- Astley (M29)
- Patricroft (M30)
- Denton (M34)
- Sale (M33)
- Heald Green (SK8)
More details about the Quilters’ Guild groups can be found here
There must be some non-guild affiliated groups as well, but I’m not sure where these are.
Many of these groups are aimed at the older age group, and occur during the day, when younger people are typically at work. I’d love to get a group of young(ish) quilters together that meet in South Manchester/City Centre.
I’ve been wanting to learn quilting for years. I’m now in my mid 30s. If a group is starts in Manc area, please let me know.
Thanks!
Mary

Hi Sandra
I have a patchwork shop just outside Oldham, not too far from you. I sell fabrics, kits, notions etc as well as teaching classes most days. Why not check out my website or pop over and see the shop for yourself. I also do mail order.

Hello I have 3 units inside Hyde Market Hall, upper level and I sell fabrics and knitting wool. I stock a range of quilting accessories, rotary cutters, mats and templates. Most of my fabric is 100% cotton and starts at £4.20 a metre up to £6.99 and is suitable for patchwork.
I also run patchwork and quilting courses and I am now taking bookings for a new course starting in September. My husband also has two units opposite me with an extensive range of haberdashery, selling everything the sewing enthusiast could possibly need. Look me up on yell.com THE CRAFTY MOGGIE.

Hi
Quilting looks fantastic but a would take more time than I have available. Does anybody know of a quilting, wadding and backing service in the Manchester area? I am just looking to quilt some wide plain silk and make a simple edged bed cover. When I have more time I would like to try some quilting though! Any help with contacts who offer the service I need would be very welcome.
Hi, this is probably too late for you now but there are long arm quilters who are available through Patchfinders in Poynton – a fantastic fabric shop with good classes and courses in patchwork.
Hi,
if there is a group sort of in the area of Moss Side/Hulme/Chorlton/Fallowfield I would love to know and join.
I am a beginner, still working.
Thanks,
Cindy
Hi Cindy,
I’m in that area. I don’t know of any groups in this area yet, but if we get a few people interested, we could look into starting one!
Liz
I live in currymile if any one is in the same are we could start one
I’m in Middleton M24. I’d love to start a small group of Quilters. I know of somewhere that might be available for meeting up. Could see if something could be done evenings maybe? I have always wanted to start a sewing group as I find I am rather lonely now the kids are at High School and my disability has ment me giving up a lot of other hobbies. I have a huge fabric hoard of my own that I am happy to help newbies with starting out. I have been sewing since I was in Primary school but Patchwork and Quilting is still rather new to me tho I have used some techniques in other sewing projects.
So if anyone would be interested in a Middleton Group, please contact me. Traditional, Modern, Art etc. Newbies to Experts. Would like it to be skill swap style based where we all pass on our own skills to each other. Maybe run projects together in view to displaying etc?
Hi laura, stumbled across this thread by accident. I live in Castleton, Rochdale and have been moaning on my Face Book group that there are no quilting groups nearby that understand that some quilters work during the day. All the local ones are during the day. I would love to join a local group and am willing to help in a small way…not because I’m mean but because I have a caravan and am away most weekends and school holidays so my help would be a bit intermittent. Anyway, I’d love to be kept informed of any progress etc. Bye for now, Sue
Hi laura iv just seen your post and was wondering if you managed to start a quilting group? I would love to try my hand at it, I have already bought lots of the things I need but have never done anything like this before and am at a lose of where to start!!
Hello Laura,

Hi Susan, Laura, I would love to learn patchwork and quilting. I also live near Ramsbottom, did you find a group in the area?
I have a lot of quilting fabrics to sell, a mixture of lengths plus fat quarters. Have quilted for many years ,but,
just moved so need to condense hobbies
I live in Urmston, M41 area.
Would be interested in a South Manchester group if it met in an evening or on a weekend day. Only made two quilts so far but am making more at the moment.
