UK Quilting Magazines

The Quilter is the magazine of the Quilter’s Guild of the British Isles. It’s a quarterly magazines packed with reviews and tutorials and news from the guild, and comes highly recommended by me (and not just because it occasionally has a picture of my lovely face in it!)

I’ve found that the best place to buy quilting magazines is WHSmith in the Arndale or in the Trafford Centre. Supermarkets are the other good place to buy patchwork and quilting magazines.

WHSmith naturally stocks British Patchwork and Quilting Magazine and Popular Patchwork, both produced in the UK. British Patchwork and Quilting has a good range of different projects inside, as well as a big pull-out pattern. It also features some lovely articles! Popular Patchwork also has online editions.

Smith’s stocks English editions of the French magazines, Magic Patch (released every two months) and Quiltmania, as well as imported editions of McCall’s Quilting and Quilting Arts from the USA.

It also has the Quilt Almanac which is released every January, by the makers of America’s Quilt magazine. It includes around 15 different projects to try.

Smith’s also stocks some general crafty magazines. I really like Mollie Makes and Making Magazine which have both had some really interesting quilt articles.

Finally, Cloth Paper Scissors is a British mixed-media mag that I’d like to get my hands on!
